4/3/2024 0 Comments 3d comics chaperone episode 3What was your first W4, actual paycheck (non-cash) job? #TheUndercoverCandidate #TheUndercoverEmployee #EmploymentRelationship I look forward to hearing your stories, examples, and insights. How can you enhance the first day for new hires who are at the very beginning of their employment relationship with you? This is true for all relationships - employment, and personal. What is your impression? Would you go on another date with them?Īs Maya Angelou famously shared, "When someone shows you who they are, believe them". * The directions they provided are incomplete and you end up five blocks away without any way to contact them. * For dinner at their house (don't recommend this on a first date from a safety standpoint, but stick with me), the table is cluttered and dirty. * The other person shows up 20 minutes late saying they forgot the date was that night. We too often forget the relationship elements - communication, empathy, listening, thoughtfulness, etc. We often remember the employment portion - taxes, benefits, forms, etc. * Being greeted with "Oh, sh*#, that's today". * Getting locked in the stairwell between floors 37 & 38 (yes, there is a longer story to that one). * Having to clean out my new desk/office myself. Some of my experiences from office positions have included. What stands out in your memory from that day? Or maybe the first time you had an office all your own. It could be your current job (if you don't work for yourself). #challengeyourself #keynotespeaker #meetingsandevents #disrupthr #TheUndercoverCandidate How can YOU stretch, grow, and challenge yourself to expand your expertise and deliver beyond expectations? I'll add a link to the event in the comments. If you are in the area I would be thrilled to meet you in person. I'll be in Kansas City on September 20th to deliver a 5-minute talk entitled "Balloons Are Not a Hiring Strategy". My next challenge is another Ignite-style talk for DisruptHR LLC. People don't necessarily expect a workplace culture expert with a background in HR and Fortune 200 leadership to be witty, and yet, delivering the unexpected next level of work is the challenge before us all. To push the envelope and make me better as a keynoter and emcee for corporate and association events. So WHY do I invest time, energy, and hard work in these other styles of presentation and performance? To expand my reach. Again, this was for an audience that did not match the demographics of my traditional keynotes, and a topic that is not my primary expertise. Five minutes, 20 slides, 15 seconds per slide, and the slides automatically advance). The 2nd most nervous I have ever been was for my first Ignite presentation. These are crowds of 20 and 30-year-olds who are expecting to laugh while they enjoy their 2-drink minimum, not leaders and executives who are expecting to be inspired and informed about workplace culture and how to move the needle on hiring and retention. (This is a legendary stage that has witnessed the footprints and humor of Kathleen Madigan, Josh Blue, Jerry Seinfeld, Roseanne Barr, George Lopez, and others that you would definitely recognize).Ĭomedy club patrons are not representative of my traditional audience for professional speaking. The most nervous I have ever been before taking a stage was the first time I did stand-up at Comedy Works in downtown Denver. I do stand-up because I fundamentally believe that exploring other areas of performance art will make my stage presence stronger. My keynote and emcee work are both better because of my work in comedy and other performance arts. Why? Not to become a world-famous or even Denver-famous comedian. It's a little-known secret that I do stand up.
